Paris Hilton Parodies Populate Online

Paris Hilton Parodies Populate Online

The bonanza surrounding Paris Hilton's jailing was from the first scream of "Mom!" destined for parody.

It's the sort of thing for which talk-show hosts smack their lips. You can almost feel the cast of "Saturday Night Live" wishing they weren't between seasons. But even in the midst of summer reruns, there are more than enough Paris parodies to be found online. They are ranked here, on a scale of five perfectly accessorized Chihuahuas:

"Paris in Jail: The Music Video": Nearly six million people have watched this video on YouTube. The video, which was directed by Allan Murray and Sean Haines and can be found at their Web site http://www.omovies.com, features a Hilton lookalike singing about her difficulties to a reggae rip-off of Modest Mouse's "Float On." The production value is very good for a YouTube video and its popularity reflects the thirst for parody of the hotel heiress. But it's only mildly funny. Two Tinkerbells.

"Shawskank Redemption": This spoof, located at http://www.jibjab.com/view/159403, is very crude and should be considered R-rated. The animated video, as the title suggests, plays off of the film "Shawshank Redemption." The conceit is perfect, but the lowbrow humor wastes the opportunity. Two and a half Tinkerbells.

Conan O'Brien: One of the most popular Paris parodies on YouTube is this clip from NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien": http://tinyurl.com/2e6po3. When the talk-show host announces that Hilton is in jail, the audience applauds enthusiastically for over a minute while O'Brien has his shoes shined. It's a spot-on reflection on the power of schadenfreude. Four Tinkerbells.

"Paris Hilton Gets Pumped": The video http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/4948 shows Hilton using her time in prison to hit the weights. A thin blonde gradually becomes extremely muscled while Hilton's catch phrase "that's hot" plays over and over. Three Tinkerbells.

Tommy Chong's Take: An interview with Tommy Chong by MSNBC's Contessa Brewer on the day Hilton was ordered back to jail was posted on YouTube and is linked here: http://tinyurl.com/3a3za6. While Brewer defends the jailing of Hilton, Chong asks of the media circus: "Refresh me. Who did she murder, by the way?" Five Tinkerbells.
